About

Camille Saint-Saëns (1835–1921) was a French composer, pianist, and organist known for his versatile style and contribution to French Romantic music. A prodigy with a career spanning nearly seven decades, Saint-Saëns composed numerous symphonies, concertos, and operas. His music is often noted for its elegance, wit, and technical mastery.

One of his most popular works, Le Carnaval des Animaux (The Carnival of the Animals), was composed in 1886 as a lighthearted suite for two pianos and an ensemble of instruments. Although he originally intended it as a private piece just for friends, it has become one of his most beloved works, especially with young audiences. The suite humorously depicts various animals, including a majestic lion, the lively kangaroo, and the iconic “Swan,” represented by a beautiful cello melody. The Carnival of the Animals uses playful rhythms, imaginative instrumentation, and clever musical jokes, making it a charming introduction to both classical music and Saint-Saëns’ style.
